I received a kidney transplant 5 years ago from Peru and doing well. I will like to meet other patients to share our experience. Is there any meeting in the United States for this?

You can go to our web site and see the available resources for patients with kidney transplants.  Please go to:  http://www.kidney.org/transplantation/transaction/index.cfm

My 14 year old has a single pelvic kidney and plays sports. Is there a kidney guard or something he can wear for protection? I can not find any on the internet.

I am not aware of any guard or protection for pelvic kidneys.  Hip pads worn by football players would not protect the proper areas.

I found I had CKD Dec 2006. My GRF was 54 then and been dropping ever since, now it’s 33. I always had yearly physicals. I’m with a health care system that does not promote seeing their nephrologists until 3 months into stage 4. I have had lots of lab blood work done. All my numbers are good except for GFR and PTH. I have no blood in my urine and have no other CKD symptoms, I am not on blood pressure medication and I am not diabetic. My father and his sister both were on dialysis at age 60. I am 66 and in good health otherwise and active. I requested a kidney ultrasound a year ago and a small stone was found. My doctor said my kidneys were inflamed and not due to genetics. No other tests have been done other than blood work. I have never done drugs. My question is, do you think my health care (HMO) is doing all it can to find the cause of my CKD? Also are there other tests that could be done?

The only other test that I would inquire about is urine testing for protein.  If you have excess protein in your urine, then a kidney biopsy may be needed.  You mentioned that there was no blood in your urine.  Did … Continue reading

My eGFR number was 53 >60. I get UTI’s often (3 times a year). Are my kidneys beginning to have problems?

I am unable to make a diagnosis based on the information that you provide.  To qualify as chronic kidney disease (CKD) your estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) must be less than 60 milliliters per minute per 1.73 meters squared and … Continue reading
