My father is 63 years old and is suffering from polycystic kidney from last 4 years. He is under treatment in New Delhi,India. July 2015 he had first hematuria, then September and three times in last 40 days. Question: 1) Is hematuria this frequent in this disease? 2) Any treatment available to cure cysts? 3) What to expect further in this disease and what symptoms may lead to a need for dialysis or transplant, if required?

Blood in the urine (hematuria) is a sign associated with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PCKD).  This can be associated with pain and flank discomfort.  There is no cure for PCKD.  I recommend that you review the information on our web site at:  https://www.kidney.org/atoz/content/polycystic

You can also review the web site at the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation web site at: www.PKDcure.org
