My creatinine went down from 3.0 to 2.7 from taking sodium bicarbonate and I don’t have metabolic acidosis, but sodium bicarbonate is making my creatinine go down. So, should I keep taking sodium bicarbonate?

There is no scientific evidence that taking sodium bicarbonate without a pre-existing metabolic acidosis would be of any benefit to patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD).  Because of the “sodium” in sodium bicarbonate, there is a theoretical risk that blood pressure could be increased with sodium bicarbonate.  I suggest that you discuss these issues with your nephrologist.
