Does excessively high protein in urine lead to death?

A large amount of protein in the urine is called proteinuria and if the amount is greater than 3.5 grams per day, then this is known as nephrotic syndrome.  It does not result in death, but does indicate kidney disease is present.  A kidney biopsy may be necessary in order to make a specific diagnosis.
