My partner has high blood pressure, high cholesterol and triglycerides. He has recently found out he was born with only 1 kidney. Could this be contributing to these other health problems?

In most people, having a single kidney results in no other effects on your health.  In patients with a single kidney, I recommend annual testing for blood and urine.  Treatment of high blood pressure and lipids are very important to protect the health of the single kidney.  Patients with a single kidney are more likely to suffer damage from high blood pressure and hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis).
