Hi Sir, I am 23 years old, blood group B+. My brother needs a kidney transplantation. Is that possible for me to donate my kidney to him?? My concern is, I was consuming alcohol for the past 5 years. I will drink about 3-4 times a week but recently I quit drinking for 3 months already. And I have been smoking for the past 2 years. Am I eligible to donate a kidney? And my family does not get to know about my drinking and smoking habits?

There are no universal donor criteria.  Each individual kidney transplant center determines who will and who will not be allowed to be a kidney donor.  Some programs do not permit active smokers to be kidney donors.  If you discontinue alcohol use, this should not pose a problem.  Hence, you will need to contact the transplant center who is evaluating your brother and ask to be evaluated to be his donor.  This is the only way you will find out if you are a possible donor.
