The ultra sound showed bilateral renal insufficiency with a resistive index of .84 for the right kidney and .78 for the left kidney. What does this mean? I won’t be seeing my Doctor until Dec 20th.

An ultrasound and doppler examination of the kidneys are done to look at blood flow to each kidney.  The resistive index is a calculated value that looks for possible narrowing of blood vessels into the kidney.  The resistive index must be interpreted with knowledge of the velocity of blood flowing through the blood vessels.  I am unable to interpret these values without looking at the scan and reviewing all of the information that is available.  I suggest that you wait and discuss these results with your physician.
