I am 30 years old and have had high blood pressure for a few years now, but it always becomes higher after dialysis treatments. I keep asking the doctors and they are unsure of the cause -I am on 4 different blood pressure medications. After every dialysis treatment the numbers are very elevated -a few times over 200. I’m sure its caused from dialysis because before treatment blood pressure is not usually high. It has been causing headaches that last hours and do not go away with the use of regular painkillers. Do you know what the cause of high blood pressure could be relating to dialysis?

Blood pressure changes immediately after dialysis can be very difficult to deal with.  I am unable to make a specific diagnosis in your situation without performing a complete history and physical examination.  In some cases, I have found that more … Continue reading

My husband has CKD and kidney function approx 30%. He is scheduled for a hernia repair and pre op liquid diet. Is it safe to have two days of only liquid when he has been limiting or at least monitoring fluids for past many months?

I have just been told my numbers for kidney problems are getting worse. I am diabetic and over weight with high blood pressure. The high blood pressure has only recently, last few months, really increased. Can kidney problems be reversed? If so, how?

I just want to know instead of EMLA cream or that spray that just doesn’t seem to work, is it safe to use a pain patch on a graft instead?

I am not sure what pain patch you are referring to.  Some pain patches have non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID’s) within the patch.  This might be a problem.  I suggest that you discuss this with your nephrologist.

My husband is sixty eight. He has high blood pressure and diabetes. Today his creatinine was 2.4. He weighs 97 kilos. He’s 5 foot 7. My question is: what is the next step we should take to find out his problem and seek treatment? We currently live overseas and the medical status here is very weak and not sufficient enough.

I suggest that your husband consult with a local nephrologist in your country and ask for evaluation of this kidney function with both blood and urine testing.  This should help to lead to a more specific diagnosis and this will … Continue reading
