Hello, My father ( aged 58 ) had kidney failure and now has dialysis 3 times a week. He still loves traveling, hiking and staying active as he has done all his life. He is complaining about severe muscle soreness even after not so high intensity and length hiking in mountains. He is fit and daily active so that seems to be very unusual and difficult to manage for him. Is there a medical link between kidney disease and activity levels (in particular hiking or perhaps higher altitudes) he should be aware of to make sure he can fully enjoy what he loves? Or is this just the case of having to exercise more in preparation for hikes to avoid unnecessary muscle strain?

I am unable to make a specific diagnosis based on the information that you present.  Your father should be examined by his nephrologist to determine if there is a problem with his exercise and his muscle pain.  You father should be evaluated by his physician.
