My wife has kidney disease that is in remission right now. She wants to take a peppermint supplement to help her stomach. This supplement has magnesium stearate in it. She wants to know if this will harm her kidneys?

If her kidney function is now normal, magnesium stearate should not pose any problem for her.  We do restrict magnesium intake for patients with advance chronic kidney disease (CKD).  If her estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was less than 15 milliliters per minute per 1.73 meters squared, then she may need to check with her physician about taking a magnesium containing supplement.
