Hello, can you tell me the difference between egfr and gfr? I notice on my lab work there are two different values for each.

The glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is the true kidney function that commonly requires a timed urine collection done in a very specific way.  The GFR is often done with some form of clearance testing.  The estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is commonly a calculated estimate based on using the serum creatinine and other information in a scientific equation for calculating the eGFR.  You can learn more about the GFR and eGFR on our web site at:  https://www.kidney.org/professionals/KDOQI/gfr
