I have calcium oxalate kidney stones. I am reading that Tumeric Curcumin supplements cannot be taken because it is high in oxalates. I also have chronic back pain and had taken the supplement for awhile and it really did help. Not sure if I can continue to take it.

I have no experience with Tumeric Curcumin and kidney stones. I do recommend a low salt DASH diet for anyone with recurrent calcium oxalate kidney stones. I recommend that you review the DASH diet and see if this will help … Continue reading

My husband is 60, very healthy overall. He works out 5 days a week, doing crossfire like exercises. He’s had ACL and meniscus tears to both knees, and a biceps tear but because his muscles are strong. MD wasn’t worried and he went back to work and the gym very quickly. He has low T and takes testosterone. He takes Azor for mild HTN. He’s c/o being very tired for the last few weeks, with more pain after exercising. He went to MD, had labs done and his CK was 1078 and GFR 51. No one called to tell us as we saw it in the patient portal. I’m a nurse and I wasn’t happy. He went back to MD, who said she would order more tests, but thought his high CK might have been due to his high intensity workout that morning. She didn’t seem too concerned about his GFR. I reviewed his labs and see that his GFR was 56 a year ago. No one said anything a year ago. Hi. I have two questions. I was diagnosed with UPJ, with terrible kidney pain. The doctor said it went away, but I am still in the same amount of pain. Does UPJ go away and if it does why do I have so much of the same pain? Second question. My right kidney (painful side) is 9.6cm and the left kidney 11cm. Is this normal to have this size difference?

Post operative ultrasound results read 9mm stone at mid pole cortex. I cannot find information on stones that large in the cortex. Can you direct me to information about developing such sized stones in the cortex? Does “at” the mid pole cortex mean the same as “within” the mid pole cortex?

The problem that you describe is a urological problem. Stones in the cortex are generally of no consequence, but I am a nephrologist and have no surgical or urological expertise. I suggest you consult with a urologist.
