Hello Dr. Spry, I am an 11 year kidney transplant survivor. I have been invited to a 95th birthday celebration in Puerto Rico for my aunt. She lives in San Juan. I plan to visit a travel clinic for transplant and kidney patients that my nephrologist suggested I go to before making my trip. In your opinion, how risky would it be for me to go to Puerto Rico because of the high incidence of the Zika virus there?

I do not know of any risks for the Zika virus in relation to a kidney transplant recipient.  If you have a risk for being pregnant, this could pose a risk, but otherwise, Zika virus infection in most individuals, including transplant recipients, is  an asymptotic infection.
